Conclusion
The tests show that the ND-3500A only burnt DVDs at 12x and 8x, this is due to 16x media not being available and it will therefore write a lot faster using the correct media. However, it is interesting to notice that the when the ND-3500A burns a DVD+R disk at 8x, it takes around 2 minutes longer to burn than the Plextor PX-712A drive and 1 minute longer to burn than the Pioneer DVR-A07. The ND-3500A can fill a blank 800MB CD-R in 3 minutes and a CD-RW in just over 4 minutes. The drive can also write Double Layer DVD+Rs at 4x (5,540KB/s) managing to write over 7.5GB of data to a disk in around 25.5 minutes. The boxed version of the NEC drive is bundled with a variety of Nero products as shown here. NECs official page for the drive can be found here.
I award the NEC ND-3500A
