1. Engineer Installed Broadband
If your Broadband connection was originally installed by a BT Engineer, you will already have the low pass analogue signals and the high pass ADSL signals separated at the original outlet point. The BT Engineer installed wall plate needs to be replaced with a standard telephone wall plate so that both the telephone and ADSL signals are routed around the house to all extensions. If this modification is not made the ADSL signal will not be routed to ANY other phone extension point.

2. Connection of BT Home Network 1200 to Microfilter
The connection from the Microfilter to the BT Home Network 1200 Phone Line port is shown in all diagrams as the right hand side of the Microfilter. However if the Microfilter is viewed from the side which has the diagrams or symbols (a computer/DSL and a telephone side by side) then the computer/ADSL socket is the socket on the left side and not the right.

3. Removal of Norton Personal Firewall
The removal of Norton Personal Firewall is not always successfully removed using the uninstall utility. To all intents and purposes it is removed but the BT Home Network 1200 appears to check the Registry of Windows XP and in some versions of XP (upgrades from Windows 98 to XP in DELL PCs for example) the XP Registry is not completely cleared of Norton Personal Firewall information. The result is that the installation of the BT Home Network 1200 software is halted. Repeated uninstalls of Norton Personal Firewall will not work. You will need to visit Symantec’s web site to obtain a fix. The URL is as follows: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nip.nsf/docid/2001090510510636

The help page is reproduced on the next page for guidance. It is very quick and easy to execute. If you cannot find the Rnis.exe utility amongst your Symantec utilities then just download as described. The BT Home Network 1200 software should then load without any further problems.
